Each polling place is staffed on Election Day with citizens who serve as election judges; election judges carry out election procedures and make sure that the rights of voters are protected. Judges generally serve in the precinct in which they live but can serve in any precinct in the County.
The Minnesota Secretary of State provides information on becoming an election judge. Judges are appointed by the Township Board or City Council at least 25 days before an election.
If appointed, judges must attend a training session conducted by the County Auditor-Treasurer.
