In 2021 the Mille Lacs County Board of Commissioners approved a plan to consolidate three separate county departments into a single Land Services Department to improve services and reduce spending, effective 2022.

Units
The Land Services Department is comprised of four units, administering their own unique programs and services aligned around common goals and objectives related to the management of land and provision of high-quality public service.
- Assessor's Office: The Assessor's Office is responsible for estimating the market value and determining the classification of each piece of property in the County for property tax purposes.
- Auditor-Treasurer's Office: The Auditor-Treasurer's Office is responsible for the calculation and collection of property tax, administration of elections, issuance of miscellaneous licenses, and a variety of other related duties.
- Recorder's Office: The Recorder's Office records and preserves real estate records for properties located in the County, in addition to preserving and issuing vital records.
- Zoning Office: The Zoning Office administers and enforces zoning and land use regulations for unincorporated areas of the County.
