What else should I know about the Rural Preserve Program?
  • Before qualifying for Rural Preserve, the property must first qualify for, and be enrolled in, the Green Acres program.
  • If at any time you sell, transfer, subdivide, or otherwise withdraw your property (in part or in whole) from the Rural Preserve program, you will be responsible to pay back deferred taxes on the acreage withdrawn for the current year plus the two previous years.
  • If a property enrolled in Rural Preserve is sold to another person who may qualify for continuation of the program, the new owner must apply to the County Assessor within 30 days of the purchase.
  • Once an entire parcel has withdrawn from Rural Preserve, you will be responsible to pay any deferred special assessments plus any accrued interest.

For further information, look at the Rural Preserve Property Tax Program (Fact Sheet 15) (PDF). Please contact the Assessor's Office at 320-983-8311 or 888-280-8311, if you have specific questions about your property.
