If I call to report a medical emergency, what should I tell the dispatcher?

When the call is answered you should tell the dispatcher the following:

  • Age, if known
  • If the person is conscious (awake) and their breathing status
  • What is the chief complaint, examples include:
    • Bleeding
    • Chest pains
    • Difficulty breathing
    • General illness
    • etc.
  • Where is the medical emergency

The call-taker will then ask you to stay on the line while they transfer you to North Ambulance for pre-arrival instructions.
